Luxottica: Over 140,000 Counterfeited Ray-Ban Sunglasses Intercepted and Seized in the UAE

MILAN, Italy, January 26 — Luxottica Group S.p.A. (MTA: LUX; NYSE: LUX), a global leader in premium fashion, luxury and sports eyewear, welcomed today with great satisfaction the final order issued by the Consumer Protection Center of the Sharjah’s emirate (United Arab Emirates) to destroy 143,700 counterfeited Ray-Ban sunglasses, found during a raid action at the local China Optical Center distributor.
The distributor was also obligated to pay a fine of US$4,000, and according to the UAE Trademark law, should the distributor be caught again in the trade of counterfeit product it risks enforced closing of its business activity for up to 6 months.
Counterfeit activity greatly damages not only manufacturers and distributors of original products but also trademark owners while also misleading and deceiving clients and consumers whose health and safety can be put at risk.
