MadRock Introduces HERA Crashpad to Support Ovarian Cancer Research

The latest addition to Mad Rock’s gear line is the HERA Pad, a bouldering crashpad that does more than cushion a rock climber’s fall—it also helps save women’s lives. The new HERA Pad, designed with softer foam to make the pad lighter and have a better bounce for female climbers, is aiding in the fight against ovarian cancer. Mad Rock is donating $10.00 from the sale of each HERA Pad to the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation. The crashpad is screened with both the HERA Foundation and Climb4Life logos and retails for $139.95. The pad is available beginning Dec. 1 at REI stores and at www.madrockclimbing.com.

“Mad Rock wanted to create a product that would not only generate funding for HERA but that would increase awareness of ovarian cancer,” says Mad Rock’s regional sales director Deanna Quesada who conceptualized the pad earlier this year. “HERA functions like a crashpad for women’s health by educating women about gynecological cancers and funding research. Our hope is that together, HERA and Mad Rock can help to catch and save women from the peril of ovarian cancer.”

“When Mad Rock presented a mock-up of the bouldering pad at the summer Outdoor Retailer, it was obvious everyone around the table was having a similar vision: Joe’s Valley, Hueco Tanks or the Happy Boulders covered with HERA Pads,” explains Hilary Silberman, HERA’s administrative director. “This is the type of product that gets people talking and that in turn raises awareness, which ultimately begins the process of saving lives. Mad Rock’s commitment to both HERA and women’s health is something to be admired.”
