The Shmooz returned to the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market show on Friday, August 2nd and was attended by well over 150 job seekers eager to meet with representatives from companies within the outdoor industry.

Returning to the Shmooz at OR this summer was a discussion panel session, which was debuted earlier this year at the winter Shmooz series. The panel, featuring human resources professionals from industry leading companies, focused on the topic: “Standing Out in a Competitive Market” and was attended by nearly 100 people. The panelists were: Brent de Saxe, Sr. Recruiting Manager at KEEN, Rob Hanel, Talent Acquisition Lead at The Clymb, Stephanie Sellers, HR Manager at Specialized, and Mike Spaulding, Recruiter at Backcountry.com.

The action picked up at just after noon after a 15 minute break following the end of discussions – and the Shmooz was on! More than 150 people came through during the Job Fair and Networking portion of the event to visit 16 of the industry’s leading employers. The participating companies were: Bemis, The Clymb, Specialized, Specialty Sports Venture, Industrial Revolution, Petzl, Backcountry.com, KEEN, Incipio, Minus 33, Scott USA, KLIM, Cabela’s, Black Diamond Equipment, Taos Footwear, and Incrediwear.

“The Shmooz at Outdoor Retailer was a big success. We had 16 companies exhibiting, which is more than we’ve ever had, and job seekers came from all over the country for the opportunity to speak face to face with some of the leading brands in the industry. The discussion panel added a lot to the event as well – representatives from four industry leading companies shared valuable information with the audience of job seekers, and helped better prepare them to make the most of their time at the Shmooz,” explained Malakye.com’s Kelly Bader.

As The Shmooz wound down, many of the employers reported a turnout of great people. It truly served the purpose of bringing the job hunt to life and creating an opportunity for both companies and “jobseeking candidates” to become more than text to each other.
