Mammut, the Swiss quality provider of alpine gear and apparel, has been recognized by the 2007 Outside Buyer’s Guide “Killer Value” designation, for their women’s-specific Asana 35 pack. Also touted “most durable” of the women’s packs reviewed in the issue, the Asana 35 is an alpine pack intended for long days of hiking or climbing, and overnight forays where a well-balanced load is essential. Tested primarily among the craggy granite trails of the Northeast, the Asana “didn’t get hung up or show any wear” as it was “wriggled and scraped through boulder caves” and put through the rigors of Outside’s discerning test team.

Featuring Mammut’s Butterfly System®, an ergonomic frame which moves with the wearer on both horizontal and vertical axes, the Asana “supported epic day loads and still moved with our bodies”, according to the female testers. The pack’s hipbelt and shoulder straps are contoured specifically for women’s bodies as well, adding to a snug fit and comfortable ride over the long haul. The Asana 35 is available for $139 at specialty retailers nationwide, as is Mammut’s entire line of alpine, hiking, and snow packs.

Raichle, the Mammut Sports Group’s footwear brand, also received accolades for the Storm trail shoe, commended as a go-to shoe for those looking to “Go Anywhere, Fast”. One tester proclaimed the Storm as a “near-perfect do-it-all shoe” that is “tough….light….(and) fast”, after “weeks on boulder-strewn trails”. The Raichle Storm is available for $89, and additional Raichle trail footwear can be found at selected specialty outdoor stores.

The 2007 Outside Buyer’s Guide was released on April 26th and is available at newsstands and specialty retailers for six months.
