Mammut Taps Doug Workman for Snow Safety Advisor
Mammut Adds Expert to Support Increase in Barryvox, RAS Airbag Sales
Shelburne, VT (September 27th, 2011) – Mammut, the Swiss quality providers of alpine gear and apparel and award-winning snow safety technologies, today announced the appointment of avalanche safety expert Doug Workman as Snow Safety Advisor. With the recent acquisition of Snowpulse Removable Airbag System (RAS) packs and spiking sales of the Pulse Barryvox and Element Barryvox transceivers, Mammut has tapped Workman to support and provide service to professional users, including patrollers and guides.
Doug Workman has been a professional mountain and ski guide for over a decade. Highlights of his professional career include guided ski descents of the Grand Teton and Denali, ski guiding on the Antarctic Peninsula, and nearly ten years heli-ski guiding in Alaska where he manages Valdez Heli-Ski Guides. He is also a professional patroller at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and a heli ski guide in Jackson Hole for High Mountain Heli-Skiing.
“Our Pulse Barryvox is the most widely used among professionals and guides, many of whom are also turning to our unique RAS avalanche airbags to complete their personal safety equipment,†said Mike Welch, national sales manager for Mammut USA. “With both Barryvox sales on the rise, and the launch of Mammut’s RAS avalanche safety packs, we need a veteran who understands users of all abilities to support the professional snow safety market segment where we’re seeing continued growth year after year. Doug is already a trusted member of the guiding community and we are extremely excited to have him on the Mammut team.â€
Mammut has introduced two avalanche safety RAS packs to the US market for the 2011-2012 season with the first and only Removable Airbag System, making these packs lighter and less bulky than any other airbag systems on the market. Both professional and recreational winter enthusiasts are readily adopting the Mammut RAS packs as they resolve many of the traditional shortcomings of previous airbag systems.

Mammut anticipates expanding the selection to seven RAS pack styles for the 2012-2013 season.
“I’ve been using Barryvox beacons in the backcountry almost daily for the last ten years and have been
using Snowpulse’s avalanche airbags for the last four years,†said Workman. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to share my first-hand knowledge of the safety and simplicity of the same vital tools I’ve been trusting as a professional mountain guide with others.â€
Workman’s climbing, ski mountaineering, and professional guiding resume includes dozens of notable climbing ascents and ski descents, certification at the Avalanche Level 3 for guides, and International Snow Science Workshops. He has been a member of the Mammut snow athlete team since 2003.
