Marmot’s Armageddon Undercuff Glove wins Polartec® APEX Award

Rohnert Park, CA: Marmot, an award-winning, globally distributed brand of high-performance, technical clothing, apparel and equipment, has won the prestigious APEX Award from Polartec® for the new Armageddon Undercuff glove, available in stores this fall. The Polartec® APEX Awards are presented to designers and companies that make the most outstanding Polartec® based products. Garments and accessories are judged on innovation, design, style, workmanship, fit, and functionality.

The sleek and modern Marmot Armageddon Undercuff ($150 USD) is a sophisticated new addition to Marmot’s 2012 Glove Collection. Constructed with Marmot MemBrain® waterproof-breathable fabric and DriClime® three-dimensional wicking fabric, the Armageddon also includes a layer of Polartec® Thermal Pro®—a highly compressible and lightweight insulation that provides outstanding warmth and comfort.

Brian Loveless, Marmot’s Product Manager of Gloves, authored the Armageddon’s cutting-edge design and explains, “We set out to give skiers everything they needed in a freeride undercuff—a warm glove for high performance situations but with a superior fit that wouldn’t compromise functionality.”

When Loveless first learned of Polartec® Thermal Pro® insulation, he knew it was perfect for the Armageddon. “It’s the ideal weight, warmth and loft needed for an all-leather snowsports glove,” explains Loveless. Through the insulation’s unique construction, pockets of warm air become trapped, which continues to insulate the user’s hands, even during stop and go activities. Loveless, an avid skier and all-mountain athlete adds, “The low bulk makes it feel as though there isn’t any insulation in the glove at all.”

Loveless finished the Armageddon with several other significant features like a washable goatskin leather palm for unparalleled comfort and durability and “Outfinished” seams on the glove’s palm side for superior fit and dexterity. He also included protective foam padding in critical impact zones.

Loveless adds, “The Armageddon has been a great success for us this year—it’s already being welcomed by our freeride athletes and field testers as one of the warmest gloves we make at Marmot.”
