Marmot Super Mica Jacket wins Outside Magazine’s 2010 Gear of the Year Award

Santa Rosa, (CA): Outdoor apparel and equipment manufacturer and industry leader, Marmot Mountain, LLC, has won Outside Magazine’s prestigious Gear of the Year Award for the Super Mica jacket—a superbly engineered, ultralight, waterproof-breathable shell. The Super Mica will be featured in Outside’s Spring/Summer Buyer’s Guide which hits newsstands May 4, reaching 1.3 million outdoor enthusiasts and active gear purchasers.

Riding on the success of last summer’s award-winning 7oz Mica jacket, which won industry and consumer awards in North America and Europe, the new Super Mica represents Marmot’s next generation of ultralight, waterproof-breathable shells, integrating Marmot’s MemBrain® Strataâ„¢ Technology. The 9oz Super Mica ($199 USD) uses the same supple, translucent fabric as its predecessor, but it’s an even more fully-featured shell. Super Mica highlights include PitZipsâ„¢ and Pack Pocketsâ„¢ and a full-length water resistant front zipper; an elastic hem draw cord; asymmetric cuffs with Velcro adjustments; a gale force adjustable hood with a wire brim; and stylish zonal reinforcements on the shoulders and hips.

“The Super Mica has game-changing potential for serious outdoor users who want to state-of-the-art, ultralight products for their adventures,” explains Brian LaPlante., Marmot’s Category Merchandise Manager. LaPlante along with an internal design team at Marmot’s headquarters in Santa Rosa, California, developed the Super Mica for eighteen months to optimize the customer value while still keeping the overall weight under 10 ounces.

“Winning Outside’s Gear of the Year award reinforces our continued commitment to developing our ultralight category for our customers,” explains Greg Houser, Marmot’s Vice President of Design who leads the company’s in-house design team. Houser’s direction over the past five years has evolved Marmot into becoming one of the most award-winning and respected outdoor brands in world. “We’re going to continue to grow our ultralight category without sacrificing Marmot’s dedication to long-term durability and quality,” he adds.
