Rohnert Park (CA): Over the past 15 years, the Polartec® APEX Award has evolved into one of the most important accolades in the outdoor industry. This prestigious award is presented to outdoor apparel manufacturers each year for outstanding products that integrate Polartec® fabrics into their designs. The APEX Award criterion measures against the product’s intended end use. It’s judged on innovation, versatility, functionality, fit and comfort, which includes performance and wear qualities. It’s also judged on aesthetics, which includes beauty, style and flair—integrating the fundamentals of good design.

Marmot’s Isotherm Hoody, constructed with new cutting-edge Polartec® Alpha® insulation, was selected for the 2013 Polartec® APEX Award. The Isotherm Hoody, available this fall, includes Polartec® Alpha® insulation throughout the entire garment. Alpha® is an exciting new concept in synthetic insulation with unsurpassed thermo-regulation and breathability.

“Unlike conventional synthetic insulations, Alpha® has a unique knitted structure that permits body heat and moisture vapor to move through the insulation—away from the body,” explains Brian LaPlante, Marmot’s Director of Outdoor Apparel. “This allows us to create ‘active insulation’ garments designed for high aerobic use.” LaPlante adds, “The Isotherm is an ideal insulated jacket for ski-touring, hiking, mountaineering and everyday outdoor uses—especially in colder temperatures.”

Marmot’s new Isotherm Hoody (14.7oz / 416.7g), available for men and women—and also offered in a hoodless version—includes an internal DriClime® mesh lining for additional moisture management and comfort. The jacket is finished with a 20 denier Pertex Quantum® face fabric and softshell reinforcements on the shoulders.

Greg Houser, Marmot’s Vice President of Production adds, “As industry leaders in technical innovation, the APEX Award not only validates our strides in product development and evolution but it also spurs us onwards to greater, future designs.”

On Wednesday, July 30, at the 2013 Summer Outdoor Retailer trade show in Salt Lake City, Polartec® will be presenting Marmot with the Malden—a coveted trophy among the world’s best designers that represents the pinnacle of Polartec® innovation and design inspiration. Houser adds, “We’re honored to be receiving this important award and we look forward to celebrating with our industry colleagues.”
