Marmot’s Paige Claassen Sets Forth on 12-month “LEAD NOW” Climbing Odyssey

Rohnert Park (CA): This June, Paige Claassen, a professional rock climber and Marmot Athlete, is headed off on a world-wide climbing odyssey—a 12 month tour aptly named “Lead Now” and sponsored by Marmot. Paige (23), along with film maker Jon Glassberg (29), also a Marmot Athlete, will travel through 12 different countries, taking on 12 challenging rock climbing, bouldering and big wall routes—pushing Paige to climb to her absolute limit: http://leadnowtour.org/

Each month, Paige will use her chosen climbing objective to spotlight important non-profit organizations specific to the regions she’ll visit. Her top-line goal is to raise awareness and funding for select organizations that support women and children who are victims of abuse, hunger, oppression or sexual exploitation, through Lead Now’s Crowdrise fundraising page: http://www.crowdrise.com/leadnowtour

Paige and Jon start their year-long adventure in South Africa this month. From there, the climbing duo will journey to Russia, Italy, Japan, China, India, Israel, Ecuador, Chili, Argentina, Australia and then finish up in the U.S.—a true world tour. Jon, a talented film maker who owns Louder Than 11, a film production company in Boulder, Colorado, will produce a new web episode each month along the journey, culminating in a documentary film about their experience: http://vimeo.com/68063817

One of Paige’s additional goals during her year-long sojourn is to unearth common themes among different cultures and connect them together through Marmot’s Lead Now Tour.

“There’s something we can give and something we can take in each place,” explains Paige, who traded in her relatively structured life in Boulder, Colorado to live out of a backpack and a duffel for the next year. “I hope to come away with a renewed understanding of the aspirations, needs, and daily lives of people all over the world. If I can give a bit of help back in return and inspire others to pursue their dreams, Lead Now will be a success.”

Paige will update her personal blog each week to keep people connected and inspired throughout her global adventure: http://paigeclaassen.com/

“I’m sure between traveling for a year, trying to climb at my limit, and raising $120,000 for women and children around the world—I’m in over my head!” explains Paige. “But what else is the time right after college better for than big adventures, taking risks, and the opportunity to learn from the incredible people who make up our world.”
