Medicines Global Outdoor Youth Program adds GoPro to growing list of sponsors

GoPro awards its “get youth into the outdoors” 2008 camera grant to Medicines Global’s Outdoor Youth Ambassador (MGOYA) program.

“We reviewed dozens of youth programs in order to support a non profit organization that creatively approaches getting youth involved in the outdoors. After viewing Medicines Global’s “WALK” on YouTube (Nepal Expedition Spring 2007) we made our decision to donate 100 GoPro cameras annually and to sponsor one Youth Ambassador’s expedition to Nepal this spring, said Nicholas Woodman, founder of GoPro.

“We are excited to join MG’s 2008 sponsors, KEEN Footwear Foundation, Mountain HardWear Gives Back Foundation, Eagle Creek, GoLite, Isis, Vasque, LEKI, Bodyglide, Chaco, Adventure Medical Kits, Napapijri plus several other members of the outdoor industry who continue to support Medicines Global’s nine years of international outreach to adventure travelers.”

The MGOYA program works with at risk student populations at three Los Angeles high schools. A highly competitive Photo-Essay contest helps select the annual Outdoor Youth Ambassadors. Monthly outdoor camping and hiking activities for 14 students culminate in an annual expedition to Nepal. Six youth ambassadors join the Medicines Global Expedition team delivering thousands of dollars of medical supplies to Kathmandu area hospitals and to health posts along the Annapurna Trail.

The Medicines Global team will be taking appointments at the Outdoor Retailer show seeking sponsorship for MG’s Nepal Expedition Spring 2008 as well support for the continuation of MG’s global networking to adventure travelers.
