Brewery Group and Brewmaster of the Year, Gold Medal Hubert MPA, Gold Medal Fresh Hop IPA

Alpine, Wyoming – October 16,2017

Melvin Brewing brings the ruckus to the 36th anniversary of the Great American Beer Festival® (GABF). With over 60,000 attendees over the three days and four pouring sessions the party never stopped with Melvin Brewing. A constant stream of brewers, beer lovers, and judges sampled, danced and wondered, ‘what’s on the bus’? It’s safe to say that after 35 years the GABF stage had never been shared by an elephant and a ‘drunken master’.

This year’s festival was the most competitive yet, with over 2,000 breweries and almost 8,000 individual beers entered into the competition – a 15% increase over 2016. GABF is the largest commercial beer competition in the world and a symbol of brewing status. 293 medals were awarded to some of the best commercial brewers in the United States.

Once again, Melvin Brewing was triumphant, garnering two (2) GOLD medals for their deliciously disruptive IPA’s and winning the prestigious Brewery Group and Brewmaster of the Year. A new category for 2017, the winner is determined by total points awarded divided by total number of group entries.

“Melvin won small brewpub of the year in 2015, declared Co-founder Jeremy Tofte. “Later in the spring of 2016 Melvin started shipping cans out of our new production facility in Alpine Wyoming. This award is a testament of what a great team we have put together while scaling up and how we are able to concentrate on our top priority, making consistent, quality beer while having the time of our lives.”

GOLD Medal Beers

Wet Hop Melvin IPA- ABV: 7.5%, IBU: 80

Take an OG Melvin IPA and elevate it to the next level (Mars Perhaps). Brewed with ridiculous amounts of CTZ, Nugget and our proprietary hops. Leaves your tongue coated in juicy hop resin and happiness. We here at Melvin hope you’re ready for the future.

Hubert- ABV: 6%, IBU: 70

Big, bright citrus (grapefruit, lemon) and tropical fruit aromas and flavors with a medium bodied malt base giving just enough sweetness. Finishes with a brisk but pleasing bitterness. Clear, pale golden color. Brewed on the West Coast of Wyoming.

Giving back and supporting local communities is another key focus for Melvin Brewing. Not only did the Melvin team, beer fans and judges have the time of their lives at the Great American Beer Festival®, but they raised over $6,000 for Denver charities in the process. Water For the People (promoting clean drinking water) and The Chill Foundation (guiding youth through boardsports) align closely with Melvin’s deep belief in brewing and snowboarding, creating an ideal partnership at the 2017 GABF.

“Each year the Great American Beer Festival showcases the best that American brewers have to offer,” said Chris Swersey, competition manager, Great American Beer Festival. “With a record 8,000 + entries, this year’s competition was the most competitive to date. Congratulations to all the winners who truly demonstrated why the U.S. is the world’s best and most diverse brewing nation.”

About Melvin Brewing

Melvin Brewing, born in 2009, is the beer child of Jeremy Tofte and Kirk McHale to fulfill their desire to drink the madness. Their quest was to produce the biggest and baddest West-Coast Style IPAs in Jackson, WY. Like true chemists, they experimented on a 30-gallon, then three-barrel brew house system, and developed the award-winning Melvin IPA and 2×4 Imperial IPA. Today, Melvin Brewing has a full-scale brewing facility in Alpine, WY, a brewpub in Bellingham, WA and astoundingly, more than 40 mouthwatering beer recipes to its name, including a range of hoppy beers and other styles such as ChChCh-Cherry Bomb (Fruit Beer), Killer Bees (Honey Ale), Coffee Ruckus (Coffee Imperial Stout) and Wu’Wit (Belgian Wit).
