Adventure Racing legend Mike Kloser will act as honorary race director and guest speaker at the ECARS Championship at Seven Springs Mountain Resort September 14-15.

The 2012 East Coast Adventure Racing Series schedule is set for this year with the championship race Sept. 14-15, being held at Seven Springs Mountain Resort, Seven Springs, PA. This year Adventure racer legend Mike Kloser will be the Honorary Race director and official guest speaker for the year ending event.

“It’s been sometime since Adventure Racing has had a series like the ECARS and Seven Springs Mountain Resort will be a fantastic venue for hosting the Championships for an event of this caliber,” said Kloser. “I think this is the start for a great future and will certainly help bring Adventure Racing back into the limelight of which it deserves!”

Kloser will be giving away two autographed packs (MS-1 & AS-1) at the championship. These are packs that he designed himself specifically for adventure racing. Kloser has an impressive adventure racing resume as he has four Adventure Racing World Championships to his name. He started out racing mountain bikes competitively and was inducted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in 2002.

Originally from Iowa, Kloser moved to Vail, Colorado in 1979 because of his love for skiing. He still lives there today with his wife Emily and their two children Heidi, 18, and Christian, 17. Aside from the four world championships, he also has won the World Mountain Bike Championship, World Long-Distance Orienteering Championship, three time Eco-Challenge champion and five time Primal Quest Champion, two time Winter Triathlon National Champion, and a slew of other national and international titles. The championship kicks off at midnight and will highlight mountain biking, trail running and orienteering disciplines. As with all ECARS Series event races, prize bundles values around $50,000 will be given away to the winning team. Everything from Greenlayer jackets to SOG knives to Soleus heart monitor watches to Scott running shoes will be included in the prize boxes for each race.
Other races this season, such as the 48 hour, American Adventure Sport sponsored Equinox Traverse in July which will have disciplines in mountain biking, canoeing/kayaking, trekking and an optional rappel. However, not all the events are as intense. The Delmarva SCAR race being held in Laurel, DE is designed to be an easier, entry-level race that is only 12 hours and includes eight miles of flat water paddling, 45 miles of mountain biking and ten miles of trekking.
