LAFAYETTE, CO (For immediate release) – MILLET, the French based manufacturer of technical outdoor apparel and gear, has been awarded Outside Magazine’s 2013 Gear of the Year award for their new ski backpack, the Matrix 30 MBS. Millet’s first product was a rucksack in 1934, and reception of this highly coveted award further continues MILLET’S rich history in development of high performance mountain gear.

“We really liked how simple and sleek the pack is,” says Sam Moulton, Executive Editor of Outside. “The ski carry system is one of the best we’ve ever tested. It’s easy to use, keeps your skis close to you back, and still allows you to access the main body. All in all, it was the most versatile and user-friendly winter pack in this year’s test.”
Millet Product Manager, Antoine Lafoux, confirms that was the intended goal when designing the Matrix. “Its concept is based on logic and simplicity, to make each action of the user easier, faster and safer,” he says. “There is no conflict between functions,” Lafoux continues. “For example, you can open the bag while the skis are loaded on it is not a problem anymore as the hood is locked laterally by the aluminum buckle.”

Asymmetrical design throughout, the Matrix 30 MBS addresses mobility and weight distribution, reworking traditional concepts of what goes where and how to carry. It features a diagonal ski carry, with crampon pocket on one side and double ice axe holder on the other side, that counter balance each other to redistribute load.
The Matrix also features MILLET’S Mobility Back System (MBS), a pivot point above the hipbelt that was first introduced in Millet’s Spring ‘13 Axpel pack, and has tested to show great improvements in comfort. Additional features include a removable helmet holder, compartments for shovel and probe, gear holders on shoulder straps and hip belt, and compatibility with all hydration systems.
The Matrix 30 MBS retails for $179.95, and will be available in stores this month. For more information, please contact Maro LaBlance, at maro@lafumausa.com.
