Mountain Hardwear’s Tim Emmett Claims New First Ascent at Helmcken Falls
Richmond, Calif. (March 2, 2016) – Mountain Hardwear, creator of performance apparel and equipment, is thrilled to recognize MHW Athlete Tim Emmett’s new ice climbing first ascent on the Helmcken Falls in British Columbia, Canada. Named Interstellar Spice, the route is 260 ft long with an overhang of 30 meters, graded WI 12 – the first climb of this grade.
Emmett, a UK-native, and his climbing partner, Klemen Premrl, of Slovenia, spent a week in early February working on the route. The climb started up Clash of the Titans, which the pair established in 2014, before breaking left through a series of roofs. The climbing included just two moves on rock and follows and long line of 28 bolts through a maze of ice daggers and mushrooms up to the lip of the cave.

Emmett described the climb as, “the longest and coolest single pitch ice climb that either of us have done before. Interstellar Spice is like a dream for ice climbers.”
“Tim never ceases to amaze us at Mountain Hardwear with his talent and passion for ice climbing,” said Mountain Hardwear Brand Manager Kari Rice. “Athletes pushing the limits of the sport, in turn push us to continue creating apparel and gear to help them accomplish their goals.”
