Golden, Colorado – Boulder, Colorado based professional outdoor photographer, National Geographic contributor and Mountainsmith ambassador, Andy Mann, has been torturing Mountainsmith camera bags since 2007, providing real world feedback and suggesting innovative and cutting-edge features along the way. The result: a 2014 camera bag line, custom tailored for weekend adventurers to professional photographers. Holiday gift givers will be able to take advantage of Mountainsmith’s mid-October early launch of the line.

Building on ten years of experience with camera bags, company designers sat down with Andy in early 2012 to build a new line of bags from the ground up using imagination, new material advancements and ideas sketched on beverage napkins. The design process centered around new technologies in camera bodies, lenses and accessories to ensure the right fit for DSLR, mirrorless/micro 4/3, point and shoot and the requisite flashes, lenses, filters, batteries, cards, light stands and tri-pods.

Combining Andy’s innovative camera bag organization with Mountainsmith’s trademark durability, the design team chose 500-denier s-Kodra with a 5000mm coating, offering highly weather resistant protection for photographers on the most rugged of adventures. Before the line was introduced to the retail trade this past August, Andy conducted final and real-life product testing from South Africa to Russia to the Rocky Mountains.

“I think the most important thing about a camera bag is that you love it,” says Mann. “They say the same thing about guitars…that it doesn’t even matter what guitar you are playing, it’s that when you pick it up you feel inspired to play it. I want the same thing for these bags. I want people to pick them up, access their tools and feel inspired to shoot.”

Most of the collection is exclusively available at REI and REI.com from October 15th through December 31st.  Beginning January 2014, the complete line will be available at retail shops across the country and from Mountainsmith.com. The line will be viewable on Mountainsmith.com starting today.

Forged in the Rockies, Mountainsmith’s commitment to innovation began in 1979 and continues to the present with a full line of active lifestyle products. The quality and comfort of all Mountainsmith products—technical backpacks, travel storage systems, luggage, camera bags, urban packs, pet products and trekking poles as well as the lumbar pack icons—set the standard for the worldwide outdoor marketplace. Mountainsmith manufactures, markets, and distributes an expanding group of products designed to meet the demands of travel on and off the trail, through airports, and anywhere that carrying-comfort is essential. Mountainsmith products are sold worldwide.
