Movement Skis signs three-year exclusive with Thin-Ply Technology

Portland, Oregon (July 16, 2012) — Movement Skis (www.movementskis.com), distributed by Garmont North America, this week signed an exclusive three-year deal for North Thin-Ply Technology (TPT), the revolutionary ski construction technology that provides the backbone of their strikingly ultralight X-Series ski collection.

Serving up pure lightweight performance with remarkable stability, TPT debuted in North America with the Movement Logic X in 2012 – a shapely ski that weighed only 0.9 kg (at 160cm) yet performed well beyond its weight class.

“The X-Series skis are one of those rare product collections that get people excited and talking from the first moment they touch them on the retail floor. People never forget how light they are when they pick them up the first time, and they are continually amazed at how well they ski in a variety of conditions,” said David Fee, president of Garmont North America.

A classic camber ski, the Logic X is available in four sizes : 160 cm (123-88-111 , 0.9 kg), 168 cm (125-88-113 , 1 kg), 176 cm (127-88-115, 1.1 kg), and 184 cm (127-88-115, 1.2 kg).

For 2013, Movement Skis will add a new ski with TPT: the Bond X. Featuring the same staggering lightness as its cousin, the Bond X adds the twist of an early rise tip and tail rocker. The Bond X will also be available in four lengths: 161 cm (119-84-108, 0.95 kg), 168 cm (119-84-108, 1.05 kg), 177 cm (120-84-109, 1.15 kg, 1.1 kg), and 183 cm (120-84-109, 1.25 kg).

“Movement’s research determined that the placement of TPT fibers in certain angles could achieve a level of performance never seen before,” added Fee.

Nine years in the making, TPT technology was first developed for the sail making industry in 1985. By 2010, TPT technology evolved to include several new applications, most notably in the sporting goods market.

To integrate TPT technology into the manufacture of skis, Movement and NORTH TPT developed fiberglass/carbon-impregnated layers, optimized for each model. With the exclusive rights to the innovative new application, Movement was able to create some of the lightest and most technologically advanced touring skis ever made.
