MSR® Reactor® Stove Wins Alpinist Mountain Standards Award

Through extensive in-the-field testing, the stove system was recognized for its efficiency, performance, compactness and durability.

The Alpinist Mountain Standards reviews provide unbiased, candid feedback and anecdotal commentary to equipment tested in the field. The review panel is comprised of climbers who use the gear every day as part of their work and play. Only the gear that they would actually buy themselves, deemed as “nearly perfect”, qualifies for the Alpinist Mountain Standards Award.

The MSR Reactor Stove System was reviewed by John Race, member of the Mountain Standards panel and co-owner of the Northwest Mountain School. Race used the stove for private and commercial trips for several years, in addition to a dedicated three-month test through Alpinist. In the online review, Race notes “for many years, stove inefficiency was a problem that was largely unaddressed by manufacturers. Finally, a new generation of hyper-efficient stoves hit the market, and MSR’s Reactor is by far the best. In my experience, the Reactor reduces my fuel needs by 50 percent.”

The MSR Reactor Stove System provides maximum efficiency and achieves an unrivaled boil time, allowing for superior performance in all conditions. A patent-pending burner features two modes of heat transfer, convective and radiant, to generate maximum heat output; while an integrated heat exchanger completely encloses the radiant burner. The integrated heat exchanger is fused to the pot, increasing surface area and dwell time of the flame and providing total wind protection. The MSR Reactor Stove also features an internal regulator, which equalizes fuel pressure for consistent flame output in all temperatures.
