Mountain Safety Research® (MSR®), the Seattle-based high-performance outdoor equipment brand, has announced that its Winter Category Manager, Sarah Courtney has joined the Board of Directors at Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC). In this volunteer position, Courtney will support NWAC’s mission to save lives and reduce the impacts of avalanches on recreation, industry, and transportation.
“I was looking for opportunities to give back to the outdoor and snow sports community,” says Sarah Courtney. “As someone who thinks about snow safety every day, the opening on the NWAC Board of Directors was a natural fit.”
As the leading avalanche forecasting, safety, and education center for the Pacific Northwest, NWAC’s mission is to save lives and reduce the impacts of avalanches on the region. The center maintains one of the most comprehensive weather data networks of its kind. It also offers public avalanche awareness clinics.
“We are fortunate to have Sarah join the NWAC Board,” said Scott Schell, NWAC Executive Director. “Sarah’s knowledge of the snowshoe community will be invaluable as we activate our vision to improve our outreach and messaging—and ultimately the safety—to the PNW snowshoer.”
MSR believes that safety is central to unlocking greater outdoor adventures. Outside of Sarah Courtney’s new advisory position, MSR has partnered with NWAC and REI for the past several years on its Going Deep Avalanche Workshops. Financial support provided by MSR is used to support NWAC’s workshops plus forecast products & fundraisers.
