BOULDER, Colo. (August 9, 2007) – Going to be out in the field in a variety of overnight conditions and temperatures? If so, the new Optimus Multi-Temperature Sleep System from Slumberjack is designed to keep outdoor adventurers comfortable in fluctuating weather conditions. The all-in-one, transformable sleep system is uniquely designed to deliver high-end performance without adding unwanted bulk and weight to your backpack.

The Optimus system, which borrows from Slumberjack’s military product line, is equipped with two mummy-shaped sleeping bags (one 5-degree bag and one 25-degree bag), a bivy shelter and a compression stuff sack that stores all components. The mummy bags can be used alone or in combination to address a full gamut of temperatures and weather conditions.

“Weather can change in a heart beat,” said Geoff O’Keeffe, president of Slumberjack. “It doesn’t matter if you’re traveling the backcountry or sitting around a campsite with family, it’s smart to be prepared for everything. The Optimus system gives you all the tools you need to rest comfortably in a wide variety of conditions – it’s a great insurance policy when sleeping in the outdoors.”

Both Optimus mummy bags are packed with design and material innovations. The bags are filled with Thermolite® Extreme insulation, a tri-blend of fibers that provide superior loft, warmth and compactability. The exterior of each bag is constructed of a polyester diamond-ripstop material, which is extremely durable and resists water, wind and other elements. The interior of each bag features a plush, polyester-taffeta liner for added comfort.

Other common features include a flip-over hood, which doubles as a pillow; easy access drawcords for fast, convenient adjustments; anti-snag zipper protection; and hook and loop closures. To enhance warmth and comfort, the sleeping bags feature an insulated draft tube with an adjustable storm collar to keep cold air out and warm air in.

The 5-degree sleeping bag, which measures 33” x 82”, is manufactured with a double-offset, differential-cut construction, which enhances durability. The construction also helps to eliminate cold spots, ensuring an even distribution of insulation throughout the bag. The bag also incorporates a trapezoid foot box so feet can rest in a natural position.

The 25-degree sleeping bag, which measures at 34” x 84”, features a single layer, loose-liner construction. It also incorporates a ventilated foot box.

In addition to the sleeping bags, the Optimus system includes a 34” x 84” welded bivy offering advanced protection against the elements. Since the bivy has little to no stitching, it is extremely watertight, yet maintains a high level of breathability. Its waterproof nylon keeps occupants dry, while an integrated vent on the hood provides airflow to the user.

The bivy includes a stuffable, patent-pending Delrin® hoop, which keeps mesh away from the face, enhancing ventilation and comfort in wet conditions. The one-piece hoop pops into shape and easily coils for fast, convenient stuffing and transport.

All Optimus components easily store in the compression stuff sack for a total carry size of 9” x 18”. The Optimus weighs in at just over 7 lbs. and retails for $199.99.
