Bundled “Pass” makes it easier for individuals to support environmental causes

BURLINGTON, VT — 1% for the Planet is excited to announce My Planet Pass, a new program modeled after popular multi-mountain ski pass programs with the goal of increasing individual engagement with the environmental movement.

With one easy transaction, My Planet Pass holders become 1% for the Planet members as well members of Protect our Winters (POW), TreeSisters, National Forest Foundation, Save the Waves Coalition, and Slow Food. Pass holders also receive access to exclusive member benefits, including gear from these partner nonprofits, beyond what is available to the general public.

“We all know that our planet needs more support than it’s currently receiving,” said Marc Randolph, Co-Founder of Netflix, and 1% for the Planet Board Member. “That’s why it’s so important to see organizations like 1% for the Planet engaging individuals in new ways and encouraging them to support the environmental issues that impact all of us. Without continued evolution and innovation, the environmental movement will never deliver the results we need.”

Throughout 2018, 1% for the Planet has focused on expanding its outreach beyond businesses, and building a movement of individuals. The company’s recently launched 1% for the Planet Pledge campaign has already garnered around 13,000 new individuals vowing to become members and give back to environmental nonprofits through monetary and/or voluntary support.

“By packaging environmental giving as a product that many consumers are already used to purchasing, whether it is a ski pass or a subscription to their favorite streaming service, the My Planet Pass takes the intimidation out of environmental giving,” said Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet.

The My Planet Pass Program drew inspiration from the popular multi-mountain pass programs that have revolutionized the ski industry, making skiing and riding accessible beyond its core audience.

“The ski industry in recent years has demonstrated innovation with its season pass offerings to attract new participants and to make it more convenient to go directly to the slopes,” said Win Smith, Owner of Sugarbush Mountain Resort in Vermont. “It’s inspiring to see 1% for the Planet learning from this example and launching a new membership pass that encourages a larger, more diverse group of individuals to support environmental causes. I hope that they see the same success that the ski industry has—because our planet needs it!”

The Pass is available for purchase for $200, $300 and $400 membership levels. For more information and to see the break down of the member benefits, please go to pass.onepercentfortheplanet.org.
