Nation’s Top Mountain Bikers Headed to Vail for GoPro Mountain Games

With its challenging climbs, sweet singletrack descents and a healthy prize purse, the Thule X-Country Mountain Bike Race at the annual GoPro Mountain Games in Vail draws some of the country’s top cyclists every year. The 13th edition of the race on Saturday, June 7, will be no exception with a start list that includes a bevy of Olympic medalists, world cup racers and national champions.

Last year’s women’s race winner, Erin Huck (Tokyo Joes) will be back to defend her title and attempt claim another $3,000 first prize check. 2012 Olympic bronze medalist and three-time Mountain Games champion, Georgia Gould (Luna Chix) is also planning to race as well as Evelyn Dong (Backcountry.com) who finished in second last year. Vail Valley local Gretchen Reeves (Tokyo Joes) is also a rider to watch in the women’s race.

On the men’s side, Olympian and national champion Todd Wells (Specialized) will be tough to beat but last year’s second place finisher Alex Grant (Sho-Air/Cannondale) will be gunning for him. Joining them will be Ben Sonntag (Stan’s No Tubes) and local powerhouse Jay Henry (Tokyo Joes) among many others.
