Native Eyewear Announces Whitefish, MT Winner of “Locals Only Project”
Denver, CO (May 30, 2012) – Native Eyewearhas named Whitefish, MT the winner of this year’s “Locals Only Project.”
“We visited 18 mountain towns during our eight-week Locals Only Project Tour before selecting the five finalists by evaluating the distinctive lifestyle, the sense of cohesion and pride the area omits, the mountain sports culture, the inspirational athletes leading the community and the overall outdoor amenities and resources,” said Jax Mariash, Director of Marketing for Native Eyewear. After allowing the brand’s social media following to narrow five competing towns to a final selection, Whitefish narrowly beat out Salida, CO; Northeast Kingdom, VT; Telluride, CO; and Asheville, NC to take the honors.
The team’s visit to Whitefish occurred midway through the tour and it became instantly recognizable that the region was a great fit for the project. “Backed by an overwhelming wave of social media support from locals and fans of the town, we were convinced to name Whitefish the winner,” Mariash says.
“We are very excited and ready to host Native Eyewear and show them all of the great things Whitefish, Montana has to offer,” Whitefish Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Jan Metzmaker said. “Thanks to everybody for all the wonderful comments and photos they posted during the contest. It’s a heartwarming reminder of how the people make this place so special.”
Now that Whitefish has been crowned the winner, Native will immediately extend a call for entries to the town’s local talent, to employ writers and photographers with the knowledge and ability to capture and tell the story of Whitefish the way only true Natives could.
“Once the talent is chosen, will seek out official cultural guides to help us uncover the true story of the town by pinpointing key influencers, mountain sports enthusiasts, establishments and causes that drive the culture,” says Mariash. “In staying true to being a Whitefish local, It is important for our brand to let the community speak and be the ones that let us into their lives and their town. They will be the ones to tell their stories. Each mountain town we partner with supports our Native mindset and authentic approach. Over the next year, we will share our story by showcasing the influencers and key initiatives of Whitefish within all of our key messaging as they embody the Native spirit.”
