NEMO Equipment, Inc. has announced its expansion into two new product lines for 2009: sleeping pads and pillows. Best known for their innovative AirSupported Technology® utilizing airbeams instead of traditional aluminum tent poles, NEMO now brings a big advance to sleeping pads with their Tuo™ series. The Tuo™ pads incorporate lightweight foam, similar to other pads on the market, but the difference is a thin, airtight membrane separating the foam into two layers; a top and a bottom. Each layer is controlled by a separate valve. The Tuo™ series brings a new level of comfort to the sleeping pad, literally.

“There are two problems with the current pads on the market,” says NEMO founder and president, Cam Brensinger. “If you put your pad down on rocks and roots, you will need to inflate it firm to mask the uneven ground and bumps underneath you. That makes it about as comfortable as a sheet of plywood. That’s the first problem. The second is if you get a puncture, the pad does very little to protect you from not only bumps, but also loosing heat to the ground.” The Tuoâ„¢ series solves these problems by using two vertical layers, each with its own valve. If you get a puncture in either layer, you have the other as a backup. Problem solved. Tuoâ„¢ is offered in three sizes: Standard, Luxury and Lite (3/4 length).

A good night’s rest is not complete without the perfect pillow. To compliment the Tuoâ„¢ series of sleeping pads, NEMO is also introducing the Filloâ„¢ pillow to their product line. Filloâ„¢ combines a 3” inflatable cell with engineered baffles and 1” of high-quality memory foam to produce a backcountry pillow that can be adjusted for height and comfort. After inflating Filloâ„¢, additional height can be gained by adding a jacket or other piece of clothing to the attached shock cord on the bottom. When packed in its integrated stuff sack, Filloâ„¢ is the size of a water bottle. Unpacked, Filloâ„¢ offers generous space and cushioning.

The Tuoâ„¢ series is currently available with NEMO’s 2009 product line. Filloâ„¢ is expected to be available later this spring. For demos, please contact Kate Ketschek. For additional specifications, please log on to www.nemoequipment.com/2009catalog.pdf.
