In its effort to get youth more involved in the outdoors, NEMO Equipment, Inc. has donated over $13,000 in backpacking and mountaineering tents to youth outdoor programs so far this year. Best known for their innovative AirSupported Technology® utilizing airbeams instead of traditional aluminum tent poles, NEMO is a young, award-winning company with philanthropic roots. The company has made it a top priority to support nonprofit organizations, like those that encourage youth participation in the outdoors.
“Today’s youth are tomorrow’s explorers and conservationists. It is important that we share our own experiences and help to create new ones with the youngest generations. Protecting our environment is crucial and it starts with educating kids on the significance of the outdoors and why it needs our protection. It’s our responsibility,†says Cam Brensinger, founder and president of NEMO Equipment, Inc.
“As a company, we chose to support organizations we felt a connection to. Conservation, access and wildlife protection were big, but of special interest was getting children outside. We’re aware of the reports indicating a declining number of youths participating in outdoor activities and feel as an outdoor gear manufacturer, we can help change that,†said Brensinger.
Appalachian Mountain Club’s Youth Opportunities Program (Boston & New York City) www.outdoors.org/education/yop/index.cfm , Explorer Post 58 (Portland, OR) www.post58.org and Club Chameleon (Newmarket, NH) www.clubchameleon.org are the recipients of this year’s tent donations. A combination of 2 and 3 person tents, including some of NEMO’s AirSupportedâ„¢ tents were given to the organizations.
“The tents you donated to Club Chameleon, Newmarket Recreation’s Outdoor Wilderness Program for teens, were recently put to the test on an advanced overnight hiking trip up Mount Sandwich in NH. The hike took place at night and the tent’s lightweight material, easy set-up and mobility proved to be an invaluable asset on the trip. Thank you for allowing teens to experience nature the way it should be. We are looking forward to many more adventures with our NEMO tents.” Anneliese Fisher, Club Chameleon Director
“The Appalachian Mountain Club’s Youth Opportunities Program (YOP) is grateful to NEMO for its thoughtful 2009 donation of tents. The additional tents will help YOP provide support and training to youth agencies serving urban and at-risk youth. Having quality equipment that youth agencies can borrow allows YOP to make leading outdoor trips more affordable, enjoyable and possible. NEMO tents will be a great addition to our equipment room and will be used by YOP members this summer on trips and trainings. AMC appreciates NEMO’s partnership and looks forward to collaborating with you in the future.†Margaret McNamara, Appalachian Mountain Club Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations.
