BOSTON, September 11, 2009 – New Balance announced today that Trail Runner magazine has named the New Balance 100 racing flat a “2009 Editor’s Choice Award” winner for best racer.

Editors praise the 100 for its support, protection, ground-gripping foot placements and a “smooth, cat-like roll.” The shoe’s long-distance capabilities were also put to the test by a Trail Runner staff member, who wore the shoe to run an entire 148-mile race.

The New Balance 100 is a trail racing flat designed for the most dedicated ultra-trail runners. The 100 features a minimalist upper construction for a comfortable, lightweight ride and fewer internal seams to help eliminate irritation. The upper is also equipped with a moisture management treatment to quickly wick away moisture. A ROCK STOPTM plate in the outsole shields feet from rocks and obstacles and a unique outsole lug configuration provides ideal traction and speed on trails. The SURE LACETM keeps shoes tied to ensure an uninterrupted run. The 100 comes in 3 colors for men and women and retails for $75.00.

Team New Balance trail runners Kyle Skaggs and Anton Krupicka provided inspiration and design direction for the New Balance 100. Skaggs, winner and course record holder of the Hardrock 100 Endurance run and Krupicka, two-time winner of the Leadville 100, tested the 100 throughout the design and development process and offered insights on the specific needs of trail racers, including a lightweight, minimalist upper that helps reduce any possible points of irritation.

“We are extremely proud that the 100 has been chosen for this award by Trail Runner,” says Bryan Gothie, outdoor product manager for New Balance. “The New Balance outdoor team works diligently to provide technical and innovative shoes to meet the needs of trail running enthusiast. We are thrilled to be recognized for this effort.”

The entire review is available in Trail Runner’s October in issue now on newsstands or by visiting www.trailrunnermag.com. The 100 will launch October 2009. To find a retailer near you, please call 1.800.253.SHOE or visit www.newbalance.com.
