SEATTLE, WA (May 8, 2019) – With an estimated 8 million tons of plastic dumped into our oceans every year, Pacsafe, the leading innovator in anti-theft travel gear, introduces a new collection that gives plastic waste a second life. Launching on July 1, 2019, the Pacsafe ECONYL Collection uses regenerated fabric made from fishing nets and other discarded nylon. This collection is the first of many steps the company is taking to demonstrate its commitment to removing virgin plastic from all new products by 2023.

The new collection takes bestselling Pacsafe styles, such as the award-winning Venturesafe EXP45 and Metrosafe LS350, and recreates them utilizing recycled waste. The unique ECONYL regeneration process creates durable, long lasting yarn that performs to the same standard as brand new nylon. Unlike other recycled materials, the nylon can be rewoven infinitely without losing its high-performance qualities, creating a circular loop of reuse.

“Pacsafe was founded out of a passion for adventure and exploration, and with that comes a deep love of our planet and preserving its natural beauty,” said Magnus McGlashan, co-founder and managing director of Pacsafe. “Our partnership with ECONYL means less plastic in our oceans and landfills, and fewer resources used to create new products. It’s all part of our wider commitment to reduce ocean plastic while helping people protect their gear and the planet at the same time.”

The six core pieces in the collection include:

  • PacsafeVenturesafe EXP45 ECONYL anti-theft carry-on travel pack ($199.95)
  • PacsafeVibe 25L ECONYL anti-theft backpack ($129.95)
  • PacsafeMetrosafe LS350 ECONYL anti-theft backpack ($109.95)
  • PacsafeVibe 325 ECONYL anti-theft sling pack ($84.95)
  • PacsafeMetrosafe LS100 ECONYL anti-theft crossbody ($69.95)
  • Pacsafe Daysafe ECONYL Anti-Theft Tech Crossbody ($49.95)

For every Pacsafe ECONYL bag purchased, the company will donate $1 to the Pacsafe Turtle Fund, which helps protect marine life by providing annual grants to sea turtle conservation projects around the world. Since launching the fund in 2014, Pacsafe has helped dozens of organizations around the world to support a healthy ocean environment.

The Pacsafe ECONYLCollection will be available July 1, 2019 at REI retail and online, and at For more information, please visit the website at, or follow along on Facebook (, Instagram (, or Twitter (
