OAKLAND, Calif. (August 1, 2011) – Solio, leading developer of hand-held solar chargers and lighting products, announces the launch of its newest model, the Solio “Bolt,” available in August. As the centerpiece of the company’s expanding product matrix, the Bolt offers power and performance in an iconic package. Simplifying the user experience, the new Bolt charges devices like smartphones, GPS units, cameras, and e-readers directly from their respective USB charging cables.
With the Bolt, Solio builds on the foundation laid by longtime staples like the “Classic” and “Rocsta,” whose durability, design, and efficiency have set the standard for quality for almost a decade. Two high efficiency-rotating solar panels collect energy from the sun. The design allows a pencil to slot into the Bolt’s center, propping it up during a charge and acting as a sundial, which helps the user orient the device perfectly toward the sun for maximum efficiency solar collection.
Packing an onboard, replaceable Lithium-Polymer battery that holds a charge for up to a year, the Bolt is ready anytime, anywhere. A fully charged Bolt can give smartphones like the iPhone and Motorola Droid two complete charges or power 86 hours of music on an iPod Touch. A multifunctional LED light on the rear of the unit displays the battery level and charging status while also serving as a solar charging indicator and on/off switch.
Solio chargers power people worldwide. From households in rural Kenya that replace kerosene and single-use batteries to power radios and house lights; to adventurers keeping their GPS powered during a high country trek; to travelers on long haul flights who power their games, music, and entertainment for the length of their trip, Solio helps bridge the power gap for people around the world.
Energy entrepreneurs have started solar leasing businesses using Solio chargers to provide a safe and cost-effective power source for daily use, while generating income for themselves and their community.
Like all Solio products, the Bolt’s user-replaceable battery is simple to install, and the charger was designed for easy dismantling and recycling at the end of its usable life. The Solio Bolt will be available at RadioShack, Sprint, and REI stores in the United States and Mountain Equipment Co-op in Canada. Also available at www.solio.com.
