(Boulder, Colo.) – When Michellie Jones sets out to claim her eighth title at the Accenture Chicago Triathlon this weekend, she’ll be dressed in her signature color pink from head to toe, including her new hot pink Newton running shoes. Jones’ shoe sponsor, Newton Running, is launching a new line of Michellie Jones pink shoes at the Chicago Triathlon. The shoes are called The Cure Distance and $10 from the sale of each pair will go to Jones’ designated charity, Athletes for a Cure, a program of the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
“I am incredibly honored and pleased that Newton has developed this pink shoe,†states Jones. “I’ve been wearing Newtons for about a year now and the shoe technology has truly improved my running. These pink shoes look great and the fact that they raise money for prostate cancer research is icing on the cake.â€
Boulder, Colorado based Newton Running launched a line of lightweight, technical running shoes last spring and have quickly gained a cult following. Designed to help runners run more efficiently with less muscle fatigue, Newton Running uses patented technology inspired by Sir Isaac Newton’s elemental laws of motion to mimic barefoot running technique.
“Michellie is true citizen-athlete,†notes Newton Running president, Jerry Lee. “She has personally committed to raising $25,000 for prostate cancer and we’re proud to join her in the fight with a pink shoe that will raise money for a disease that affects one in six American men.â€
Lee, 58, is a passionate runner, a real estate developer and an entrepreneur who first learned about Newton shoe technology ten years ago and then invested in the company to help bring them to market. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and is currently undergoing treatment.
The Cure from Newton comes in two different models, the Distance, a 7.2-ounce neutral racing shoe, and the Distance S, a 7.5-ounce stability race shoe. Both shoes feature Newton’s patented Active Membrane Technology, which absorbs more impact than traditional running shoe foam and converts this energy into forward motion. Newton’s propulsion technology, combined with a running technique that focuses on a forefoot strike rather than heel striking, helps runners achieve maximum efficient performance.
Newtons are available for purchase exclusively through the company’s website, www.newtonrunning.com.
