North America Sports, producers of eight Ironman events in 2007, announces that Newton Runningâ„¢ will be the footwear partner for its race series. Newton Running shoes, which feature patented, energy-returning technology, will be worn by some of the world’s top triathletes and will be available on-site at the races for the public to demo.

“NA Sports is proud to partner with a company that is helping to push the sport of triathlon forward with innovative technology and designs that will help triathletes run faster and more efficiently,” says Paula Newby-Fraser, president of North America Sports. “Newton is poised to make a big impact on our sport.”

Founded by a group of elite runners, coaches and inventors in Boulder, Colorado, Newton Running uses patented technology inspired by Sir Isaac Newton’s elemental law of motion (for every action there is an equal an opposite reaction) to create lightweight, technical running shoes that help runners run more efficiently.

“World class Ironman triathletes like Paula Newby-Fraser have been testing our technology for years and without their feedback and support we would not have been able to develop such a revolutionary product,” says Danny Abshire, vice president of Newton Running. “We are tremendously excited to be able to support the NA Sports events in our first year as a new shoe company.”

All Newton Running shoes feature Newton Active Membrane Technologyâ„¢, which replaces the foam and plastic of traditional running shoes. The membrane is layered between four mid-sole actuators and four hollow chambers. On impact, these actuators stretch the membrane as they drive into the chambers in the sole. This action absorbs more shock than traditional running shoe foam creating a more cushioned feel. Then, during the toe-off phase of a runner’s stride, the membrane thrusts the actuators back out of the chambers, returning the impact energy into forward propulsion.

Newton’s propulsion technology, combined with a running technique that focuses on a midfoot-forefoot strike rather than heel striking, helps runners achieve maximum efficient performance.

Newton Running shoes will be worn by some of the world’s top triathletes in the 2007 season. Newton athletes include 2006 Ford Ironman World Champion, Michellie Jones, six-time Ironman World Champion, Natascha Badmann and five-time Ironman USA champion, Heather Fuhr.

Newton will be on-site at all eight North America Sports events with demo shoes for the public to try. The initial line of Newton Running shoes includes four models in both men’s and women’s sizes: the Distanceâ„¢, a 9.2 ounce (men’s size 9) cushioned, neutral racing flat; the Distance Sâ„¢, a 9.5 ounce medially-posted racing flat; the Motionâ„¢, a 10.5 ounce medially-posted training shoe; and the Gravityâ„¢, a 10.2 ounce neutral cushioned training shoe.

Newton Running shoes will available for direct purchase exclusively through Newton’s website, www.newtonrunning.com beginning on March 23.
