Northern Forest Canoe Trail Online Auction: Only One Week Away!

At 8 am on November 1, 2006 – NFCT’s Second Annual Online Auction will go live! We have more than 150 items this year, from boats to books to fantastic experiences on the Trail. The Northern Forest Canoe Trail is a 740-mile water trail, extending from the Adirondacks to northern Maine. Our mission is to celebrate the rich human heritage and diverse natural environment of the Northern Forest by establishing and stewarding a water trail tracing historic Native American travel routes across New York, Vermont, Quebec, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Our small staff in Waitsfield, Vermont, coordinates an extensive grassroots network of over 250 local volunteers. Together we have completed a 13-map series covering the Trail and published a book entitled Paddling Through Time, tracing the history of water, people, and boats in the region. We we continue to collaborate to improve local access, portage and campsite options along the route; promote economic development by attracting visitors to the region’s communities and working landscapes; and support local services and programs that educate and inpsire residents and visitors alike.

Proceeds from this auction will go directly to supporting our central strategic focus: tapping the power of our waterway route to reconnect people to place, to the direct benefit of each, in the 30 million acre Northern Forest Region, the largest intact ecosystem east of the Mississippi.
