Hood River, Ore. (October 10, 2013) –The Conservation Alliance announces Northwest Rafting Company as a new member of the organization. As a rafting outfitter that operates trips in its home state of Oregon and around the world, Northwest Rafting Company is deeply passionate about and committed to preserving rivers and its surrounding natural land.

This new partnership will continue to help support and bolster the Alliance’s efforts to work directly with outdoor industry companies to fund conservation organizations working to protect North America’s last wild spaces.

“I joined The Conservation Alliance because wilderness and river conservation are built into every decision we make,” said Zachary Collier, owner/outfitter of Northwest Rafting Company. “Part of our mission is to be actively engaged in river conservation. Because we regularly paddle threatened rivers, we want to protect the places we visit. We also work to educate others about preserving these places for future generations.”

Collier continues, “I met John Sterling at a meeting and learned more about The Conservation Alliance. I was inspired by the organization and the work they do. A week after I joined, I found out that The Conservation Alliance had awarded a grant to KS Wild for work around the Kalmiopsis, an area I love that includes Rough and Ready and Baldface Creeks. That really solidified why it was important that we join this organization.”

“Northwest Rafting Company shares our commitment to protecting wild places,” said John Sterling, Executive Director of The Conservation Alliance. “We look forward to working with Zachary and his team to support key conservation initiatives in North America.”

About the Conservation Alliance:
The Conservation Alliance is an organization of outdoor businesses whose collective contributions support grassroots environmental organizations and their efforts to protect wild places where outdoor enthusiasts recreate. Alliance funds have played a key role in protecting rivers, trails, wildlands and climbing areas.

Membership in the Alliance is open to companies representing all aspects of the outdoor industry, including manufacturers, retailers, publishers, mills and sales representatives. The result is a diverse group of businesses whose livelihood depends on protecting our natural environment.

Since its inception in 1989, the Alliance has contributed nearly $13 million to grassroots conservation groups. Alliance funding has helped save more than 41 million acres of wildlands; protect 2,700 miles of rivers; stop or remove 25 dams; designate five marine reserves; and purchase nine climbing areas.
