Moscow, ID – NRS, leading manufacturer of paddlesports accessories and inflatable water craft, will kick off a new season of media on Tuesday, May 6 with the premiere of the short film, “Dream.” Directed by Skip Armstrong, and starring pro paddler Ben Marr, Dream takes viewers to a world where a paddler’s wildest fantasies come true.
When Marr, playing a beginner kayaker, goes paddling, he discovers a posse of pros on the river and wonders whether someday he could be that cool. A daydream in the eddy transforms the purple-helmeted rookie into a waterfall-hucking Adonis.
“Dream is unlike any other paddling film,” says Mark Deming, NRS Marketing Communications Manager. “Conceptually and visually, it’s on a whole new level, but what really stands out is its playfulness and humor.”
Dream continues an ongoing effort from NRS to provide new and interesting perspectives on paddling through its NRS Films program. Its 2012 series, Of Souls + Water, examined paddling through the lens of five character archetypes, while last year’s sensation, “Cascada,” explored the confluence of art and extreme athletics. With this year’s slate of films, NRS will introduce new storytelling perspectives in a variety of formats.
“We want to offer our audience something new and different, not only in terms of the stories we tell, but also how we tell them,” says Deming.
While Dream adheres to the 5-7 minute format of previous NRS Films releases, two additional projects will break the typical short-film formula. Nobody’s River, a 30-minute documentary that follows four women paddlers through Mongolia and Russia, will be shown at festivals and public screenings throughout the summer before being released online in the fall. Timeless, a six-episode series exploring universal themes through the eyes of elders, will air in six consecutive weeks online in June and July.
NRS is a leading manufacturer and distributor of high-performance inflatable boats and SUP Boards, and of rugged, innovative gear for anyone seeking adventure on the water. Born in a college professor’s garage in 1972 as Northwest River Supplies, NRS has become a major force in the outdoor industry, inspiring and equipping countless paddlers in the U.S. and around the world.
