Ocean Minded’s Dean Randazzo Wins Masters of Pro Surfing

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., – (March 17, 2010) – Ocean Mindedâ„¢ Brand Ambassador, Dean Randazzo, from Somers Point, New Jersey, turned in a remarkable performance that enabled him to win the Masters of Pro Surfing on Saturday, March 13th at Sebastian Inlet, Florida.

“It feels great to have pushed myself in the challenging Florida waves and win an event filled with such tough competition. The support coming from the crowd on the beach allowed me to find a really nice rhythm,” said Randazzo about his invigorating win. “I’m really excited to go home and celebrate with my wife and son”.

While the waves were temperamental during the event, Randazzo was able to build momentum throughout the contest, and solidified himself a spot in the finals. His performance in the final heat of the day, against Outer Banks surfer/shaper Jesse Fernandez and California surfer Richie Collins, propelled him to victory.

“Dean’s perseverance and passion in and out of the water is an inspiration to all. Ocean Minded is proud to have him representing our Brand and we look forward to seeing where this momentum will take him,” stated Frankie D’Andrea, the company’s Brand Ambassador Coordinator.

Known as “The Jersey Devil”, Randazzo won his first contest when he was only 11 years old and became a professional surfer after he moved to California in 1990. In 1996, he qualified for the prestigious WCT (World Championship Tour), but five years later, Randazzo was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a form of cancer.

Since that time, Randazzo has won four battles with Hodgkins Disease, and has created the Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation, in order to raise money for cancer research and assist individuals battling cancer, both financially and emotionally. His foundation has raised well over $100,000 through annual fund-raising events and Dean has become known as ‘The Lance Armstrong of surfing’.
