BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. – May 24, 2010 – After creating a new exercise modality – the seated elliptical – with its June 2008 introduction of the xRide (xR6), Octane Fitness, LLC (www.octanefitness.com) has responded to consumer demand with four new seated elliptical cross trainers that complement the xR6.
“Based on broad appeal and the ability to challenge beginning exercisers to elite athletes, the seated elliptical category invented by Octane clearly is here to stay,†said Tim Porth, executive vice president of product development and marketing at Octane Fitness. “These new products incorporate the innovation, versatility and effectiveness of the original xRide, plus offer lower price points, greater space efficiency and our first lower-body-only option.â€
Cardio and Strength Combined
The xRide seated ellipticals deliver the multiple benefits of traditional standing cross trainers, such as low-impact cardiovascular routines that use a smooth, natural motion. The xR4 models (xR4c and xR4ci) offer total-body challenges, and, for those who prefer to focus exclusively on the legs, the xR3 units (xR3c and xR3ci) are lower-body-only machines that do not include moving handlebars.
A new, ergonomically designed mesh seat back on the xR3 line offers comfort and ventilation, and a five-position seat tilt and 15 seat height settings on all new xRide ellipticals accommodate users from 5’0†to 6’5†tall.
For maximum efficiency, exercisers can utilize leverage from the seat for muscular endurance training by increasing the resistance level. Leg Press and Muscle Endurance workouts incorporate high-intensity intervals of targeted strength training and various movements with cardiovascular periods.
In fact, due to exclusive PowerStroke technology, university research indicates that Octane xRide users showed 343% more activity in the glutes and burned 23% more calories than when riding a recumbent bike at the same perceived exertion level.
Results-Oriented and Customized Workouts
New goal-oriented programs — 350 calories, 750 calories, 10K and ½ marathon – boost challenge on the xRide. Heart-pumping intervals and rigorous conditioning are offered with the new 30:30 regimen from the expert trainers at Athletes’ Performance Institute (API). And Custom Interval and Heart Rate Custom Interval let users define their intensity, duration and number of intervals according to their fitness level and objectives.
For quick feedback, digital contact heart rate sensors are now standard, conveniently located on the stationary handlebars. The new sleek console is simple to use and read from the seated position.
Significant Value
Boasting compact footprints of 23†wide by 53†long (xR3), and 35†wide by 53†long (xR4), the new xRides are ultra compact, enabling them to fit in tight spaces.
Sold at specialty fitness retailers worldwide, the xR3c and xR4c models feature contact heart rate; and the xR3ci and xR4ci models include contact heart rate, wireless Polar® chest straps, heart rate control and HeartLogic Intelligence. The xR3c has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $2,199, and the xR3ci is priced at $2,499. The xR4c is $2,699, and the xR4ci sells for $2,999.
