Octane Fitness Wins Excellence in Design Award

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. – April 3, 2012 – Octane Fitness, LLC (www.octanefitness.com), a leading brand of multiple award-winning, premium elliptical cross trainers, has earned the prestigious Excellence in Design (EID) Award for its xRide seated elliptical for home use.

Teaming with Cesaroni Design Associates, Inc., in Glenview, Ill., Octane Fitness won the 2011 EID Bronze Award in the Outdoor and Leisure Appliance category.

“Industrial design and aesthetics are as critically important as ergonomics and functionality in our product development,” said Tim Porth, executive vice president of product development and marketing at Octane Fitness. “We started with a blank slate when we invented the xRide seated elliptical category, and are incredibly honored to be recognized for this groundbreaking machine.”

The xRide seated ellipticals deliver the multiple benefits of traditional standing cross trainers, such as low-impact cardiovascular routines that use a smooth, natural motion. The second generation of consumer xRide seated ellipticals boasts a sleek, compact design defined by curves and clean lines that convey fluidity and motion. Shades of light and dark grey underscore the exceptional durability, stability and quality of the unique machine.

With a convenient, step-through design, the xRide features an ergonomically designed seat for comfort, and a five-position seat tilt and 15 seat height settings that accommodate users from 5’0” to 6’5” tall. Oversize, soft grip pedals offer flexible foot positions and help ensure proper posture. Padded handgrips, water bottle/accessory holders and a carefully positioned console for easy viewing enhance workouts.

A variety of programs boost challenge and results on the xRide, which includes digital contact heart rate sensors on the stationary handlebars, along with a wireless Polar® chest strap and HeartLogic Intelligence workouts.

Exclusive Award
Presented by appliance DESIGN magazine, the 24th annual Excellence in Design competition recognizes outstanding achievements in innovation, design and functionality across eight product categories. An independent panel of design experts (who are not affiliated with the magazine) evaluate four criteria: aesthetics, human factors, innovation and technical merits in selecting Gold, Silver and Bronze awards.

For the 2011 awards, judges noted “the winning recipients demonstrated designs that focused on simplicity and strong functionality for the end-user, while optimizing and increasing product capabilities.”

There is no predetermined number of awards established, with the competition aiming to recognize the most excellent product designs – regardless of how many entries an individual category receives. All awards can be viewed in the June 2011 appliance DESIGN magazine.
