SAN FRANCISCO – March 17, 2011 – Attracting significant attention and generating excitement among health club managers, owners and staff attending the IHRSA International Convention and Trade Show is the new Cross Circuit Pro from Octane Fitness, LLC (www.octanefitness.com). Providing club members, personal trainers and group exercise instructors with a new, efficient and effective way to train, Cross Circuit also presents opportunities to generate revenue from the cardio floor.
Exclusive to Octane ellipticals, Cross Circuit combines cardio intervals on the cross trainer with strength training sets for individual workouts, or instructor-led one-on-one, small group or class sessions. Clubs can offer fee-based Cross Circuit routines with a trainer or group exercise instructor.
“The initial reaction to Cross Circuit has been phenomenal, as it breaks down barriers between cardio and strength and provides an incredible workout,†said Tim Porth, executive vice president of product development and marketing at Octane Fitness.
How it Works
Available as an option on Octane’s commercial standing ellipticals, Cross Circuit Pro includes two urethane PowerBlock® dumbbells, which adjust from either four to 32 pounds each or five to 50 pounds each, an integrated PowerBlock stand, stationary foot platforms on the elliptical and Group and Solo special programs.
In the Group routine, a personal trainer or instructor leads one or several exercisers through regimens that alternate between elliptical cardio work, and strength training either on the stationary foot platforms or on the floor adjacent to the elliptical. Trainers determine the duration of each cardio and strength cycle, along with the exercises and order of execution. During strength sets, the elliptical tracks time and an estimated caloric expenditure, affording credit for strength training.
With the Solo workout, exercisers customize their cardio interval time, and the machine prompts them to perform 8-20 repetitions of a strength exercise before returning to cardio. Individuals can choose their own combination and sequence of exercises.
Strength periods can include body weight exercises such as squats, lunges and push-ups, combined with an endless variety of traditional and functional movements using accessories including PowerBlock dumbbells, resistance tubing, barbells, stability balls, BOSU Balance Trainers, balance boards, medicine balls and gliding disks.
