OIA Announces Program for Outdoor University at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market
Sessions Offer Wide Variety of Educational Options for Attendees
Boulder, CO (December 22, 2015) – Outdoor Industry Association® (OIA), in partnership with Outdoor Retailer, will offer free education sessions as part of Outdoor University® at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, running from January 7 -10. The program kicks off with the OIA Industry Breakfast hosted by REI on Thursday, January 7th, 2016 at the Salt Lake Marriott City Creek across from the Salt Palace. The keynote presentation features author Terry Tempest Williams, who will discuss her upcoming book, “Hour of Land, A Personal Topography of National Parks,” with a look at the outdoor industry’s unique position and collective power to engage in environmental stewardship and meaningful action to protect the places where America recreates. For those who cannot attend in person OIA will simulcast the event. The live broadcast, powered by Brandlive—OIA’s platform of choice—will air on January 7, 2015, at 7 a.m. (MST). Outdoor University sessions at Outdoor Retailer (OU@OR) continue through Friday, January 8, and are included with an Outdoor Retailer registration. All of these education events will be held at the Salt Lake City Marriott Downtown at City Creek. There are several tracks to choose from at this winter’s OU@OR including: Brands, Trends, Retail, Advocacy Engagement, Supply Chain, and Professional Development.
“OU@OR is a great opportunity for Winter Market attendees to explore important developments in the industry and gather essential information that they can apply in their business,” said Michelle Biersner, OIA director of events and education. “The diversity of these Outdoor University sessions provides something for everyone who will be attending Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2016.”
Outdoor University is OIA’s education platform, providing live, online and on-demand programming throughout the year. Centennial Roundtable – Thursday, January 7 (Day 1), 12:00 p.m. –1:45 p.m.* in Salon F at the Marriott City Creek.
As we embark on Centennial celebrations for the National Park Service, now is the time for the industry to ensure our parks remain relevant and protected for another 100 years. A panel consisting of OIA members that are doing great work to commemorate the NPS’ 100-year anniversary will be joined by agency representatives to help inform you on scalable ways to get involved. Mountain Accord Panel – Friday, January 8 (Day 2), 12:00 p.m. –1:30 p.m. in Salon F at the Marriott City Creek.
Mountain Accord is a planning process to chart the future of many recreation, environmental and transportation issues in the Wasatch Mountains. OIA has been peripherally involved over the last couple of years, and this panel brings together members of the MA executive board to discuss next steps around funding and legislation to put the plan into action.
From Boot Camp to Board Room – How Military Experience Translates to Success in the Outdoor Industry – Friday, January 8 (Day 2), 2:00 p.m.– 2:45 p.m. in Salon F at the Marriott City Creek.
This panel will bring together military veterans, who after returning to civilian life are using their skills and experiences from the military to build successful careers throughout the outdoor industry.
Climate Heroes: How Outdoor Sports Brands Are Helping Advance the Climate Movement – Friday, January 8 (Day 2) 3:00 p.m.– 4:00 p.m. in Salon F at the Marriott City Creek.
