OIA Outdoor Inspiration Awards Presented by adidas Outdoor Is Accepting Nominations for 2012 Celebrants
Boulder, Colo., July 28, 2011 – Outdoor Industry Association will officially start accepting nominations for the 2012 OIA Outdoor Inspiration Awards presented by adidas Outdoor at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 4. With more people recreating closer to home and a continually expanding need to get America’s youth more engaged in outdoor activities, OIA created the Outdoor Inspiration Awards to recognize and champion those individuals, groups and companies whose efforts inspire others to participate in the great outdoors.
“Last year, we received hundreds of nominations for people and groups doing amazing work,” said Frank Hugelmeyer, president and CEO of OIA. “We heard from educators, non-profits, retailers and many others who are making it possible for people to learn about and experience outdoor activities. And once again, with our partner adidas Outdoor, we look forward to recognizing a new group of winners.”
Winners will be selected by a panel of outdoor business and community leaders who will be looking for personal stories of achievement, encouragement and insight that truly stand above the crowd.
The awards celebration will take place January 20, 2012 during the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market trade show, one of the largest annual gatherings of outdoor-involved companies, attracting thousands of participants from all over the globe.
“It’s a distinguished accomplishment to be recognized by others as an inspiration,” said Greg Thomsen, managing director for adidas Outdoor US, the sponsor behind the OIA Outdoor Inspiration Awards. “Though many of the nominees are not household names, their deeds speak volumes and we’re proud to help celebrate their success.”

adidas Outdoor
adidas Outdoor is the athletic brand in the outdoors. The company’s founder, Adi Dassler, designed equipment solutions for athletes that improved their performance. adidas Outdoor began in the 1970’s with the creation of the first light trekking shoe for climbing legend Reinhold Messner for his first Everest ascent without oxygen in 1978. That tradition continues today with products influenced by Messner and Alexander and Thomas Huber, the extraordinary brothers who consistently inspire the climbing community with their bold adventures in a unique style that is light and fast.
After years of planning and a successful launch in Europe, adidas Outdoor is bringing its first line of outerwear, base layers and footwear for men and women to the United States for Fall 2011. The footwear line will also have an extensive offering for children and infants. Designed for the outdoor athlete, the adidas Outdoor line is divided into two segments/categories – “Mountainsport,” where TERREX® is the lead concept, and “Hiking/Trekking,” which is spearheaded by the SuperTREKKING® concept. TERREX is a high-end, lightweight, younger, faster, athletic collection for high-performance activities, while SuperTREKKING® addresses longer treks that demand more stability and support. Thomas and Alexander Huber will be the face of TERREX, while Reinhold Messner will serve as brand ambassador for SuperTREKKING.
