Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) today announced the release of the 2008 Manufacturer Financial Performance Report. The report, the first of its kind, is part of two separate reports: The 2008 Manufacturer Financial Performance Report and the 2008 Manufacturer Employee Compensation Report. The reports round out the OIA library of benchmarking reports for retailers and manufacturers. The Specialty Retailer Operational Report, released in January 2007, provided retailers with critical data to enable them to compare their performance with the national average and with similar stores. The specialty retail report will be fielded again in 2009.
Created in conjunction with input from an advisory panel of over 30 outdoor businesses, the 2008 Manufacturer Financial Performance Report provides detailed financial and operating information for outdoor product manufacturers. Results profiled in the report are based on information provided by 46 participating firms.
The report includes an executive summary that presents an overview of study results with an emphasis on the differences between the median and high profit OIA company. Detailed results present an in-depth analysis of return of investment, the income statement, the balance sheet and financial and productivity ratios. Results were also broken out by product focus and manufacturing arrangements. The charts and graphs contained in the report are designed to provide comprehensive, yet straightforward guidelines for analyzing profitability among outdoor product manufacturers.
“In a time of economic uncertainty, we are pleased to release this useful business tool,” commented Frank Hugelmeyer, president of OIA, “Understanding, developing and implementing strategies based on benchmarking data is critical to long-term business success.”
The report was administered on behalf of OIA by Profit Planning Group (PPG). PPG has conducted over 100 profitability and compensation surveys annually for over 20 years. Businesses who participated in the survey will also receive an individual Performance Analysis Report from PPG.
In addition to the release of the reports, OIA and PPG will host a webinar mid October to cover best business practices to maximize profitability. Details of the webinar will be forthcoming.
As a member benefit, all OIA primary and CEO members will receive a complimentary copy of the 2008 Manufacturer Financial Performance Report. OIA CEO members can also request the report at www.outdoorindustry.org. Non members can purchase the report for $495 by calling 303.444.3353.
