OIWC Appoints New President and President Elect Mary Margaret Sloan and Lori Harrod

Boise, Idaho,– Mary Margaret Sloan has been appointed as the new President of the Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC) and Lori Harrod the new President Elect. Mary Margaret is currently the Alumni Director for the Student Conservation Association, a national conservation organization which provides hands-on service for youth on public lands. Lori is the owner and founder of plum (www.thinkplum.net), a recruiting company specializing in the outdoor and sports lifestyle brands.
“In reading the backgrounds and knowing the leadership skills of these women on deck, their leadership will continue to move the OIWC mission and provide continued excellence in focus and vision.” Said Neide Cooley, Board Member and Past President.
Before moving to New England and joining the Student Conservation Association three years ago, Mary Margaret Sloan served with the American Hiking Society, a national nonprofit organization based in the Washington DC area. Her last five of the ten years there she served as President. Prior to the American Hiking Society, she was a litigator in a general practice firm in Northern Virginia.
“In becoming the next president of OIWC, I am following in the footprints (or snowshoe prints in some cases!) of strong women leaders in the outdoor industries. It is an opportunity I couldn’t pass up because of the increasingly impactful role OIWC is playing in equipping women to succeed in our community,†said Sloan.
Lori Harrod has 12 years of experience in recruiting for consumer products and technology. Currently Lori is a recruiter and founder of plum (www.thinkplum.net, a company specializing in recruiting for sport and outdoor lifestyle brands. Lori has also worked for the Generator Group, where she initiated and built the recruiting consumer product practice. She has also worked as a contract recruiter for Nike in footwear, brand management, sales and product marketing. Prior to recruiting, Lori held several management positions for public and privately-held companies. Harrod is an avid outdoorswoman, a retired fly fishing guide and lives in White Salmon, WA.
Harrod said, “I am thrilled to be President Elect of the OIWC during such an exciting time for us. In the past few years we have developed a clear mission of providing professional development and support for the women of the Outdoor Industries. I look forward to continuing to increase our influence and enhance our offerings to our growing membership.”
The OIWC’s President is a member of the Board and serves as the Chief Volunteer for the organization. She partners with the Directors to uphold the OIWC’s mission and provides leadership to the Board of Directors while overseeing the strategic and financial planning. The President Elect is the Chair of the Governance Committee, works closely with the President to develop and implement officer transition plans and is typically the successor to the President.
