July 15, 2008 – Registration is officially open for the first annual Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC) membership conference, uniquely referred to as the WAVE. An acronym for Women of Vision, Action & Empowerment, the OIWC will host their inaugural membership gathering March 27 – 29, 2009, in scenic Ventura, CA.
This first-of-its-kind women’s conference will provide OIWC members with an opportunity to grow both professionally and personally. Organized with influential and inspiring speakers on the agenda, attendees will leave the venue with life guiding and professional tools, as well as an abundance of new friends and contacts.
“Our goal in creating this event is to provide attendees with the skills to help them discover their own personal and professional vision,†says executive director, Sally Grimes. “Women will leave the conference with a calming sense of how to plan and take action for the next stage of their lives.â€
The conference will offer distinguished keynote speakers during most of the meals, and OIWC is in the midst of securing these high-profile guests who will speak to attendees about their experiences in determining their personal and professional vision, their road to empowerment, and how they were able to take action to reach their goals. Announcements regarding WAVE keynote speakers will be coming soon.
In addition, the WAVE will offer educational seminars on topics such as Creating and Maintaining your Network, Leading & Learning, and Strategic Thinking and Persuasive Communications. To better facilitate peer group discussions, the seminars will be organized by where attendees sit on the managerial ladder.
Leading these discussion groups are women with a high level of expertise in guiding and coaching individuals and businesses on key corporate initiatives. Expert advice will be shared by Lori Harrod, a founding partner of Plum, an executive recruiting search firm; Pollyanna Pixton, an authority on corporate leadership and a recognized author; and, Jenni Dow, a master of business communications and a skilled executive consultant.
Closing the conference will be champion long boarder and tandem surfer, Mary Osborne. A native to the action sports industry and the co-author of “Sister Surfer: A Woman’s Guide to Surfing with Bliss and Courage.†Mary will discuss how to overcome fears and take action.
An outdoor break-out session is also planned for the event. On Saturday the 28th attendees will have the opportunity to partake in an array of activities such as mountain biking, trail running, and sea kayaking. These half day excursions are included in the price of the conference.
The OIWC is offering a $50 discount to ‘early-birds’ who register on or before September 30th. Registration is limited to OIWC members only and will be capped at approximately 300 attendees. The cost for the event is $380 for a shared room (double), or $500 for a single room. The registration fee includes lodging, food and outdoor activity of your choice.
