Irvine, CA – Apr.17, 2019 – OluKai, the premium Hawaiian-inspired lifestyle brand, teamed up with artisans from Brazil and Hawaii to create the limited edition Liko collection. The styles feature natural material that is dyed in small batches using a 100% natural process resulting in one-of-a-kind color variations for completely original shoes that only exist in limited quantities online.

The shoes are a result of a creative collaboration with Brazilian based artisan Maibe Maroccolo and native Hawaiian third generation lei maker Meleana Estes. Meleana identified plants grown in Hawaii that would produce interesting colors while Maibe brought her knowledge of natural hand dying to the table. The unique color variations produced come from the small-batch, made-by-hand process.

“I love collaborations and was honored to work with Maibe on this incredible project” commented Meleana Estes, Lei Maker and Designer. “Her brilliant craft of using flowers, leaves and bark to create fabric dyed from my favorite lei materials reminds me that our lives can be colored in so many different ways by nature.”

The Liko collection features three different styles, two for women and one for men and is available exclusively on The Women’s Liko Pehuea and Liko ‘Olu sandal are available in two different color variations. The first features a beautiful yellow created by using hand-picked Hawaiian yellow hibiscus flowers, yellow daisy and calendula.

The second variation was created by combining handpicked eucalyptus, passion fruit leaves and koa sawdust soaked in a eucalyptus dye bath resulting in a dusty grey.

The color of the men’s Liko Kahu was created by blending locally grinded Hawaiian koa tree bark with hand-picked eucalyptus and passion fruit leaves soaked in an avocado dye bath resulting in an earthy brown hue. The color of all of the styles will soften with use over time.

The Liko collection was created to celebrate the beautiful bounty of Mother Earth. OluKai is committed to leaving the smallest footprint possible on the planet and as a

Certified B Corporation the brand has met the highest standards of social and environmental performance and accountability. To learn more click here.
