Limited edition 60th Anniversary Wing Pack joins a growing line of vintage-inspired Kelty packs and bags

BOULDER, COLO. (For Immediate Release) – 2012 marks Kelty’s 60th year in business and to celebrate the occasion, Kelty is introducing the commemorative 60th Anniversary Wing Pack. Using vintage-style materials and actual designs pulled from the Kelty archives, this limited edition pack embodies the look and feel of classic packs from the golden age of outdoor recreation.

Joining a growing line of Kelty Vintage packs and bags, the 60th Anniversary Wing Pack utilizes the same materials as its predecessors- rugged Cordura pack fabric, leather accents, exposed zippers, classic colors, and metal clasps and buckles- to create a backpack true to Kelty’s deep outdoor heritage.

“Here at Kelty we’re proud of our heritage and our innovative outdoor gear,” said Sue Timbo, marketing director with Kelty. “Over the past 60 years, Kelty has been a leader in outdoor equipment design and manufacturing, and this 60th Anniversary Wing Pack serves as a testament to our heritage, longevity, and history of innovative design.”

Along with the commemorative Anniversary Wing Pack, Kelty is proud to introduce four other Vintage packs and bags for 2012, adding style and functionality to any urban commute.

The limited edition 60th Anniversary Wing Pack blends classic designs and materials with modern functionality, giving today’s commuters a stylish option for carrying and organizing laptops, files, and the rest of the daily essentials. A 60th Anniversary patch, metal hardware, and exposed zippers set this pack apart from the rest. $150.

Styled after a pack introduced in the 80s, the new Wing pack has the look and feel of a classic backpack with updated conveniences such as side release buckles, laptop sleeve, and media pocket. With 1730 cubic inches of storage, the Wing will easily handle your workday and weekend essentials. $125.

Grammar school students from the 70s and 80s will feel nostalgic for the Captain. A classic ‘book bag’ style backpack, the 1400 cubic inch Captain will easily handle anything from textbooks to client files to a change of clothes and more. $80.

Versatility is the name of the game with the 1400 cubic inch Wind Jammer. Featuring a removable shoulder strap, carry handle, and tuck-away backpack straps, the rectangular Wind Jammer is a commuter’s dream come true, comfortably handling enough gear for a weekend away or your everyday commute. $125.

Love to travel? So does the Kelty China Clipper. Sized right to fit into an overhead compartment, the 2230 cubic inch China Clipper combines ample space for a weekend getaway with a removable shoulder strap, carry handle, and tuck-away backpack straps for several carry options. $175.

The complete line of packs can be previewed at the Kelty booth (#28017) anytime during the Outdoor Retailer Trade Show in Salt Lake City, August 4-7. Kelty will also host an anniversary party on August 4 from 4-6, also in the Kelty booth. Limited edition 60th anniversary packs will sell for $40 and all proceeds will go to Big City Mountaineers.

Founded in 1952 by Asher “Dick” Kelty in his Glendale, CA garage, Kelty revolutionized backpack design and construction. Using innovative aluminum welding techniques and hand-stitched packbags, Dick created the very first external frame backpacks. Later, Dick invented the world’s first waistbelts, using discarded seatbelts to transfer load directly to the hips. After 60 years, Kelty is still designing and building some of the finest outdoor equipment anywhere, providing outstanding value for almost any outdoor activity.

KELTY is based in Boulder, Colorado, and uses the natural backdrop of the Rocky Mountains to test, create and continually innovate within their diverse outdoor product families of Backcountry, Trail, Vintage, Lighting, Basecamp and KIDS. Kelty combines the best in new technology with a healthy dose of common sense to create exceptionally made, affordably priced outdoor products.
