Cortez, CO and Boise, ID – May 3, 2016 – Osprey Packs today announced its sponsorship of the REI Outessa Summit, outdoor weekend getaways for women which offer authentic outdoor adventures led by professional athletes and guides. In its inaugural year, the two weekends will be held at Kirkwood Resort near Lake Tahoe, California, from August 19 to 21, and Powder Mountain near Salt Lake City, Utah from September 9 to 11. Registration opened to the public last week.
As the official pack, travel and hydration sponsor, Osprey will be hosting Backpacking 101 – a two part series which includes how to fit a pack as well as an introduction to backpacking. Osprey will explain proper pack sizing and adjustment as well as how to pack for a comfortable carry and efficient access to frequently used items. The second part of the series allows participants to head out for a hike to a nearby scenic destination and set up camp. Osprey, in partnership with Big Agnes, will offer tips on all the essentials of identifying a good site and setting up your campsite – including tent and sleeping bag selection. Other topics will include Leave No Trace principals, water filtration and more.
“We are thrilled to participate in REI Outessa Summit,” said Courtney Hart, marketing manager at Osprey. “As a brand, we are committed to empowering women to get outdoors and understand that a properly fitting, women’s specific pack is crucial for the ultimate enjoyment of any extended outdoor adventure. We look forward to demystifying the backpacking experience with the Outessa participants.”
“Through the REI Outessa Summit, we are offering women the opportunity to try something new and experience some unforgettable outdoor adventures,” said Julia Stamps Mallon, co-founder and VP of the REI Outessa Summit. “We are excited that Osprey Packs has signed as the official pack, travel and hydration sponsor.”
These weekends boast flexibility and variety since each attendee can customize her schedule, although choosing classes might be the biggest challenge as more than 200 options exist. Camping, backpacking, kayaking, outdoor cooking, mountain biking, paddle boarding, rock climbing, yoga, hiking and trail running are some of the offered activities.
Mallon added, “After three days, Outessa women will find inspiration in their peers as well as in their own new-found abilities. We want them to connect with the outdoors and each other during these unforgettable weekends.”
