Osprey Packs announced today their sponsorship of an April 2006 expedition to the North Ridge of Mount Crillon in Alaska’s inhospitable Fairweather Range.
Departing out of Gustavus, Alaska, Steve Graepel, Gabe Rogel and Jason Kraus will kayak 50 miles into the Glacier Bay Wilderness on an unsupported voyage into the Fairweather Range. Outfitted with Osprey Exposure 66 packs—which are ideally suited for vertical endeavors—the group will then traverse the unexplored Johns Hopkins Glacier.
The team’s sea-to-summit expedition will culminate on 12,726-foot Mount Crillon’s North Ridge, which remains one of the longest unclimbed lines in Alaska. But just getting there is half the battle. First, the team must brave the open waters of Glacier Bay, dense rainforest of interlocking alder, thick devil’s club, and the unexplored John Hopkins Glacier, in one of the most remote and unapproachable regions in Alaska.
