Osprey’s Atmos AG and Aura AG Honored with Backpacker Magazine’s 2015 Editors’ Choice Award
Cortez, CO – January 22, 2014– Osprey Packs, a leader in creating top-quality, high-performance, innovative packs to comfortably and efficiently carry gear, announced today that the soon to be released Atmos AG and Aura AG have been named one of Backpacker magazine’s 2015 Editors’ Choice Awards. Backpacker magazine Editors’ Choice Award is one of the most prestigious awards in the outdoor industry, given annually to products in recognition of their outstanding innovation in design, materials, and performance.
“With all the products that the Backpacker editorial team rigorously tests, it is an honor to be selected as one of this year’s Editors’ Choice winners,” said Mike Pfotenhauer, product designer and owner of Osprey Packs. “Our new Anti-Gravity suspension system is a product of 40 years of Osprey innovation. We are thrilled that Backpacker is recognizing it with this award and bringing it to the attention of their audience of outdoor enthusiasts.”
The state-of-the-art Atmos AG (for men) and Aura AG (for women) feature a unique suspended AntiGravity™ back panel system. Seamless mesh across a 3D cavity on the backpanel provides a breathable and flexible contoured fit that allows the wearer to move as if they don’t have a pack on – true anti-gravity realized. Combined with custom fit capability and a full feature set, the Atmos AG and Aura AG set a new standard in ventilated backpacking.
“It’ s pretty remarkable to carry a big load in this pack. The tensioned mesh creates a fit that really feels like a big hug around the hips,” said Backpacker Gear Editor Kristin Hostetter. “You get the load transfer and stability of a traditional-suspension system with the ventilation of a trampoline one.”
Backpacker Editor-in-Chief Dennis Lewon and his staff formally presented the award to Osprey and other award recipients yesterday during Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City. The complete list of Backpacker’s 2015 Editors’ Choice Award winners will be officially announced to the general public in the magazine’s April Gear Guide issue, on newsstands March 10.
Osprey’s Atmos AG and Aura AG will be available to consumers next month in two sizes: Atmos AG/Aura AG 65 for $260, Atmos AG/Aura AG 50 for $230.
Independent since 1974 and still anchored by the design genius of company founder and owner, Mike Pfotenhauer, Osprey Packs has long set the standard for creating innovative, high quality gear carrying equipment. The collection includes packs and bags designed to help adventurers enjoy their outdoor, biking, active everyday and travel pursuits.
The location of company headquarters in Cortez, Colorado, near the rugged San Juan Mountains on the edge of desert canyon country, provides a constant inspiration and a superb testing ground for Osprey products. Osprey also maintains a product development office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, near the factories where they manufacture their products, ensuring face-to-face relationships and transparency with their suppliers. In 2009, Osprey opened a design office in Mill Valley, California, a hub of design talent and the birthplace of mountain biking. All three of these offices play a crucial role in creating Osprey gear that lasts a lifetime.
Osprey’s customers identify with the brand in many ways, including the product lifetime All Mighty Guarantee, category leading sales, worldwide distribution, dynamic social media communications and content, a strong commitment to the environment and partnerships with inspiring and interesting organizations. Above all, the brand encourages and maintains a direct line of communication on product performance, durability and functionality, which is then incorporated and reflected in every future Osprey pack.
