Outdoor Industries Women's Coalition (OIWC) Announces Award Winners

OIWC proudly announces the 2010 winners of the Outdoor industry’s Pioneering Woman and First Ascent Awards. Wink Jackson, Founder and Designer of Zeal Optics, will be presented the Pioneering Woman Award. And Devon Sibole, Account Executive at OutsidePR will receive the First Ascent Award. Nominations were submitted by industry peers and the winners were voted on by the OIWC Board of Directors.

The Pioneering Woman Award recognizes a woman with a commitment to mentoring female colleagues, which exemplifies the OIWC’s mission to equip, educate and support women in the outdoor industries.

Wink Jackson was nominated by Angela Hassan who said about Wink, “One of her goals was to create a product that was true to women and still had great style and performance. Her passion for the outdoor industry is reflected in the product and the success of Zeal.”

The First Ascent Award complements the Pioneering Woman Award by recognizing a junior level female with a notable commitment to leadership. This award presents a platform for the OIWC to nurture and support the industry’s next female leaders. The 2010 recipient Devon Sibole was nominated by two co-workers.

Gordon Wright, President of OutsidePR stated, “Devon is, simply, a tremendously bright star rising in the Outdoor world. We’re lucky to have her, and hope that the OIWC recognizes that as much as we do every day.”

Kelly Blake, Account Director at OutsidePR said, “Devon is a hard worker with an amazing attitude. She will take on a project with enthusiasm that becomes contagious. She works hard and continues to increase her volunteer work with OIWC. She does all of this with fun, grace and professionalism. Devon does a great job at her work and continues to be passionate about the Outdoor Industry.”

The award presentation and combined networking event will take place at the OIWC Outdoor Retailer Gathering on January 23, 2010 in the Marriott Meeting Room
