Outdoor Industry Association Commends Utah for Deepening Investment in Outdoor Recreation
BOULDER, CO (July 18, 2013) –Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) commends the state of Utah for the appointment of Brad Peterson to be the first director of the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation. Peterson’s appointment is a significant step forward for outdoor recreation in Utah, marking a meaningful milestone towards Gov. Herbert’s Outdoor Recreation Vision.
“Outdoor recreation is an untapped economic opportunity that can benefit every state in the nation,” said Kirk Bailey, Vice President of Government Affairs for Outdoor Industry Association. “We are pleased that the Governor is continuing to invest in Utah’s future with this appointment. Peterson has impressive business and outdoor credentials, and the industry looks forward to working openly and collaboratively with him and Utah leadership to ensure that Utah’s natural resources are managed in a balanced way.”
The nation’s network of public lands and waters are the very foundation of the $646 billion outdoor recreation industry. In Utah, outdoor recreation generates $12 billion in spending, 122,400 jobs and produces $856 million in state and local tax revenue.
