OIA will release the State of the Industry Report at the Outdoor Industry Breakfast kicking off the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market on January 28, 2006 at 7:00 am at the Marriott Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, Utah. The State of the Industry (SOI) is a forward looking report that explores the potential in the Outdoor Industry through four key sections: Who’s Playing, Who’s Selling, Where We’re Playing, and Where We’re Headed.

Frank Hugelmeyer, President of Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) announced today that OIA will release the State of the Industry Report at the Outdoor Industry Breakfast kicking off the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market on January 28, 2006 at 7:00 am at the Marriott Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, Utah. The State of the Industry (SOI) is a forward looking report that explores the potential in the Outdoor Industry through four key sections: Who’s Playing, Who’s Selling, Where We’re Playing, and Where We’re Headed.
“Outdoor recreation occupies and enviable position at a unique time in our nation’s history,†notes Hugelmeyer. “It offers a solution to the pressing problems of obesity and inactivity, Americans are increasingly drawn to the active outdoor lifestyle, and the Industry is beginning to receive recognition as a major contributor to America’s economic vitality. More than ever, it is our potential that defines us.â€
The State of the Industry Report is a positioning piece that provides insight into the current health and the potential in the Outdoor Industry. It will be used by executives and business owners to secure funding and investment. Policy makers will be able to use the report to make more informed outdoor recreation decisions impacting all Americans. And retailers and manufacturers can use the SOI to gain understanding into their future consumers and the industry forces and trends that are redefining the outdoor retail landscape. Ultimately, the SOI is a complete look at where we are, where we are headed, and how we are likely to get there.
For the State of the Industry Report, OIA conducted numerous interviews with a wide variety of industry executives, including a survey of 210 Industry professionals. In addition, OIA pulled together all available research, including OIA and Outdoor Industry Foundation reports, and studies from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Trust for Public Land, RBC Capital Markets, SportsScan Info, Leisure Trends Group, Harris Interactive, and Forrester Research Group to name a few.
The 28 page State of the Industry Report will be made available to the industry at OIA’s Outdoor Industry Breakfast on January 28, 2006. After that it will only be available to OIA members and the media.
