Outdoor Industry Breakfast to Kick Off Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2010
January 21 Event Features Pioneers in Outdoor Participation Outreach
BOULDER, CO, January 13, 2010 – Outdoor Industry Association® (OIA) and The North Face have joined forces to present the Industry Breakfast in conjunction with the Outdoor Retailer trade show Thursday, January 21 from 7:00 – 9:00 a.m. in the Salt Lake City Marriott Ballroom.
These days, most Americans, especially young people, realize the importance of saving a tree — but fewer and fewer seem interested in climbing one. The outdoor industry is in the middle of a new digital divide, where many Millennials literally can’t see the forest for the T-Mobiles. While some may see this as a negative trend, many visionaries realize we have an extraordinary opportunity to play a major role in transforming our culture — from a society of insiders to outsiders.
“Together we must explore how we can redefine “outdoor” to inspire greater participation – from consumers to companies to communities. To succeed, we must think creatively about how our collection of companies can act as both a powerful industry and compelling community,” said Franck Hugelmeyer, president and CEO of OIA.
The industry kicks off the tradeshow exploring how they can redefine “outdoor” to inspire greater participation — from consumers to companies to communities. “As an industry, there is, perhaps, no more important issue for us to address — together,” said Chris Fanning, executive director of The Outdoor Foundation.
Speakers include Juan Martinez of the Children & Nature Network and Chris Rutgers of Outdoor Outreach, each, who, through personal experiences during their youth, have become visionary pioneers addressing this issue. In addition, Chris Fanning, executive director of The Outdoor Foundation will also speak.
The North Face, the world’s premier supplier of authentic, innovative and technically advanced outdoor apparel, equipment and footwear, will be presenting sponsor for the OIA Industry Breakfast beginning with Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2010. Title sponsors include Eagle Creek, Outdoor Retailer and W.L.Gore.
Please join us for this semi-annual event held at each Outdoor Retailer trade show. Space is limited; RSVP requested. Register here.
